Leni Robredo overtakes Bongbong Marcos in VP Count

After trailing the whole evening of May 9, Liberal Party bet Leni Robredo overtook erstwhile frontrunner Bongbong Marcos in the race to become the new Vice-President of the Philippines.  As of 3:20 am, she now has 12,860,722  votes compared 12,860,147 votes of Senator Marcos. Congresswoman Robredo was even down over a million in the early stages of the partial count.  The Vice-Presidential race is still  too close to call as these results are based on the unofficial count from the data gathered from the COMELEC-GMA Mirror Server.

Around 1 am, Leni Robredo was only down by less than 150,000 votes.  She continued to reduce the deficit in every update.  Confidence was high that she can still overtake the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos because of the underreporting of results from Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Region 4-B, and Region 13. These 3 regions are all trending as bailiwicks for the wife of the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo. At around 2:20 am, the lead of Marcos was down to just 38,926 votes.  At the 2:40 update, the lead was only 21,008.  At the 3 AM update, Marcos only lead by 5,539 votes. Finally at the 3:20 AM update, the only woman VP bet takes the lead.

3:40 AM update: Leni Robredo’s lead has increased to 8,986.

4:00 AM Update: Leni Robredo 12,939,733, Bongbong Marcos 12,925,873 :Leni increases her lead to 13,900.

Why Cebu Analysis: ARMM will be the kingmaker for the VP race as it the only region that has reported below 70% of the votes.  Leni Robredo is well ahead of Bongbong Marcos based on the early trends in the region.  This election though could be decided by less than 1 million votes and most likely the results will pass through intense scrutiny not only from the Marcos camp but also by the general public. This race will definitely have an exciting ending.
