Homegrown restaurant chain Kuya J Restaurant is fast becoming one of the top Filipino restaurant chains in the country.  From just a hole-in-the-wall eatery in 2005, Kuya J Restaurant has now grown to 18 branches spread across Luzon and Visayas. The juggernaut is not stopping as more stores are going to be opened soon including one in Davao.  The main man behind this successful venture is Winglip Chang, the Cebuano entrepreneur who gained fame for starting some of the most iconic restaurants in the city like the Grand Convention Center.

A couple of weekends ago, Mr. Chang and the rest of the Kuya J family welcomed to Cebu Jericho Rosales, its celebrity endorser.  It was a festive event that was started by a mini-concert by the Kapamilya singer/actor at SM City Cebu North Wing.  It was then followed by  a dinner and press conference at the Kuya J Restaurant branch in SM City Cebu.   Cebuana beauty queen Karla Henry served as the host of the concert and the press con.

The guests were treated to a bountiful dinner featuring some of the best dishes by the restaurant chain.  The highlight of the dinner was the participation of Jericho Rosales in presenting Kuya J’s main specialty, the Crispy Pata.

Scallops

The sweet and buttery grilled scallops are one of the best appetizers at Kuya J Restaurant.  One serving has 10 scallops and some guso (seaweed) in the middle.

Crispy Catfish (Hito)

The crispy catfish is a big surprise. The Kuya J version is seasoned well and it even tastes like a delicious fried chicken.  It is very crispy, but it is a bit bony, so you have to be a bit careful when eating it. It comes bagoong mayo and vinegar to be used as dipping sauce.

Crispy Pata

This is the main specialty of Kuya J Restaurant.  The company upgraded their fryers to give the public the best crispy pata in the country. According to Mr. Chang, their crispy pata has 3 major characteristics: It is flavorful;  It has really crispy skin; And, it has moist meat. He added that another good thing about their crispy pata is that they can assure the consistency of quality right from the first crispy pata of the day until the last crispy order at night.
